Laser XVI was created by an Imperial scientist on the planet Corellia. The Laser's purpose was to replace the Blaster Rifle that Storm Troopers carry, and to give them something that was about the same size as a Heavy Blaster Pistol, reducing the weight that an Imperial soldier would have to carry.
Unfortunately Laser XVI is too powerful for its size, so it cannot fire every round, it needs to have a cooling down period. If the laser is forced to fire two rounds in a row, it will explode, most likey killing the user.
